Redevelopment of the Grand Bouet
May 2011
The new development consists of 55 one and two bedroom units employing green technologies following guidance given in the “Code for Sustainable Homes.”
The contract to build the Grand Bouet redevelopment was awarded to J.W. Rihoy & Son Ltd. The buildings are being constructed in traditional masonry construction with high levels of thermal insulation and air tightness, far in excess of current regulations. Energy saving features such as mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and solar water heaters will help further reduce the running costs of the units.
The whole scheme is currently taking shape with phase one in its final stages before completion in mid July. Hard landscaping has commenced and the scaffolding has now been dropped revealing the completed structure. Preliminary tests on the units have proved that a high level of air tightness and improved sound insulation over and above current building regulations can be achieved using traditional masonry construction and is credit to the standard of workmanship and attention to detail on site.
